Setting up your Resource Profile
A Resource Profile is a saved set of packaging costs you apply to items in one tap. Instead of re-entering “bubble wrap $0.40, poly mailer $0.25, 15 minutes labor” for every clothing item you list, you create a profile called “Clothing — standard” once and apply it in seconds.
Why this matters
Your true profit requires knowing what it actually cost to sell an item — not just what you paid for it. Materials and labor are real costs that your eBay dashboard ignores. Resource Profiles make it fast enough that you’ll actually do it.
Creating a profile
Go to Settings → Resource Profiles → New profile.
Give it a name (e.g., “Clothing — small parcel”, “Electronics — padded box”, “Media mail — book”).
Add line items:

Save. You can create as many profiles as you need.
Applying a profile to an item
When you add a new item or edit an existing one, click Apply resource profile and pick from your saved profiles. The cost items fill in automatically. You can override individual line items before saving — if a particular item needed extra bubble wrap, adjust it.
Applying to a batch
When you run a sourcing import or add multiple items at once, you can select a profile to apply to the whole batch. Individual adjustments are still possible per item after.
Your labor rate
Set your hourly labor rate in Settings → Preferences → Labor rate. This is the dollar amount per hour that gets applied when you log time on an item. Most resellers set this to what they’d otherwise earn hourly — if you value your time at $20/hr, every 15 minutes is $5.00 in cost.
If you prefer not to track labor, leave it at $0. ResaleTruth still works — your profit numbers just won’t include labor, which means they’ll be optimistic.
Example
You create a profile called “Clothing — poly mailer”:
- Poly mailer: $0.25
- Tissue paper: $0.15
- Return label: $0.08
- Labor: 18 minutes (at your $18/hr rate = $5.40)
- Total: $5.88
Every time you list a clothing item, apply this profile. Your true cost basis automatically includes $5.88 in packaging and labor before eBay fees and shipping.
